DEVON DEJARDIN: PAREIDOLIA

Carl Kostyál is pleased to present “Pareidolia“ by the artist Devon DeJardin at the lovingly-restored Hospitalet, Stockholm.

June 12 - July 21, 2024

Devon DeJardin (b. 1993) is a self-taught, multimedia artist from Portland, Oregon currently working out of Los Angeles. DeJardin’s new paintings are the culmination of five years of his exploration into what the artist terms secular ‘guardians’, who appear as central figures in his compositions.

Comprised of geometric shapes assembled into anthropomorphic forms, the guardians have a distinctly modernist feel in their tenuous balance between figure and abstraction: twentieth century artists from diverse contexts including Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, and Yves Tanguy come to mind as significant inspiration.

As always, his paintings are notable for their meticulous rendering. His figures are so sculptural that they almost seem to emerge from the wall.

DeJardin’s work belongs to the collection of Space K Museum, Seoul, and The Burger Collection, Hong Kong. DeJardin was part of the Carl Kostyál Residency in Milan in April 2024. This is his first solo exhibition with Carl Kostyál.
