TAKASHI MURAKAMI

Gagosian is pleased to announce a presentation of paintings by Takashi Murakami at its space in London’s Burlington Arcade.

Open from December 10, 2024

The display includes four new flower paintings, installed in the upstairs gallery, while the shop houses an extensive selection of publications, prints, and merchandise.

Murakami’s multicolored smiling flower motif, which first appeared in his work in 1995, was inspired by the artist’s training in nihonga (traditional Japanese painting) and shares the discipline’s focus on natural forms.

Along with other icons such as the Mr. DOB character, the icons populate an ever-expanding body of work in painting, sculpture, print, and film in which Murakami draws on historical sources alongside sci-fi, anime, and the fluctuations of the global art market.

The presentation at Burlington Arcade is open concurrently with Japanese Art History à la Takashi Murakami, the artist’s solo presentation of paintings at Gagosian’s Grosvenor Hill gallery.
