ANA PAVÓN PORRAS: I SPIT EVEN HONEY
NANZUKA presents the debut solo exhibition I spit even honey by the artist Ana Pavón Porras at NANZUKA 2G. The exhibition is curated by AKIINOUE.
March 15 – April 14, 2024
Ana Pavón Porras was born in 1996 in Malaga, Spain, is an artist who graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Malaga in 2018, followed by completing a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Artistic Production.
She currently operates her studio in Malaga and gained attention last year with a solo exhibition at the Malaga Contemporary Art Center. Ana's works often feature curtains and fabrics, exploring the visual potential of "hidden things" and intriguing viewers with the mysteries of their own concealed truths.
The title of the exhibition, “I spit even honey,” is derived from a stanza in the poem "To Eros" by the ancient Greek female poet Nossis. In this poem, love is described as the sweetest thing in life, overshadowing all other joys and pleasures, even if they may be as sweet as honey.
Inspired by Nossis' poem, Ana seeks to explore new expressions in her work, delving into the captivating aspects of painting. The occult and seductive still lifes depicted on canvas offer us new spaces and experiences.
This exhibition primarily features six new medium-sized canvas works. In addition to pieces inspired by the poet Nossis, there are works named after other poets such as Safo and Praxila. "I Spit Even Honey" - today, just as in ancient times, honey continues to be expelled. This is because there is nothing sweeter than the mysteries posed by Ana's paintings.
