UFO907: A DAYDREAM IN MCGOLRICK PARK
NANZUKA is pleased to announce UFO907’s solo exhibition “A DAYDREAM IN MCGOLRICK PARK” at 3110NZ by LDH kitchen.
December 4, 2024 – January 11, 2025
UFO907 was born on the outskirts of New York City and, after graduating from the Parsons School of Design in the 1990s, became known not only for his woodworking and furniture craftsmanship but also as a graffiti artist based in New York for over 20 years. Since the early 2010s, UFO907 has gradually expanded his practice beyond the confines of graffiti, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions primarily in the United States and Japan.
UFO907 continues to adorn the walls and buildings scattered throughout New York City with expressive lines and elaborate murals. Utilizing essential graffiti tools such as spray cans, oil sticks, and acrylic squeeze bottles, he also introduces fine acrylic scribbles that create texture and contrast. Regarding his acrylic graffiti, he has stated that he aims for a rhythm that "mirrors life’s own," grounding each piece.
While UFO907's work is widely recognized for the striking octopus-shaped UFOs, it goes far beyond mere visual impact. He uniquely interprets the spirit of the working class and local culture, cleverly addressing the serious issues of contemporary American society, such as economic inequality, police violence, and the amplification of populism—topics that have been contentious in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Combined with his technical approach, UFO907 merges the underground chaos of graffiti culture with a refined control, blending the gritty street atmosphere with an air of caution—fusing contrasting values into a cohesive whole. For this exhibition, UFO907 presents five new works featuring octopus- shaped canvases, inspired by McGolrick Park in Brooklyn.
“A Day Dream in McGolrick Park is a collection of works born from lazy afternoons spent daydreaming in a quiet corner of Brooklyn. These paintings capture the small moments and humble characters of the park—pigeons, sparrows, slices of pizza—as windows into a personal yet universal narrative. Each piece, shaped like UFO907’s iconic character, becomes a portal that invites viewers to peer into a mind lost in thought, bridging the mundane with the whimsical, where the street and sky, the past and future, collide in vivid daydreams. These works evoke nostalgia, humor, and contemplation in the face of an ever-changing, chaotic world.” -UFO907
