VOICES: STUDIO 525
Studio 525 is presenting a Group Exhibition of Black Artists “VOICES” on view from August 20 - September 08, 2020.
On Thursday, August 20th, VOICES opened in Chelsea, an exhibition with the aim and purpose of supporting and elevating Black creatives as well as the Black Lives Matter movement, presented by Studio 525, in partnership with ArtMatic and ART SHE SAYS. One of the first events in Chelsea post-COVID, the opening saw wide attendance from artists, professionals and collectors.
Curated by Anwarii Musa, VOICES features works by renowned artists Amani Lewis, Collin Sekajugo, Delphine Diallo, Derrick Adams, Devin Allen, Dominic Chambers, Esteban Whiteside, Jeffery Meris, Kevin Brisco, Latoya Hobbs, Mark Clennon, Nate Lewis, Phyllis Stephens, Shaunte Gates, Steve Sweatpants, and Yoyo Lander.
“VOICES foregrounds the narratives that have encompassed Black beauty in America in the current era… [illustrating] the strength and luster we find in the Black body, the tenacity that our ancestors displayed when faced with the bounteous trauma of the past four previous centuries. The aim of this exhibition is to explore that same Black body voicing its experiences in the modern day era of society. The message? We are strong,” says Musa. On view by appointment-only through September 8th, VOICES will benefit Art Start and Black Artist Fund.
