YVES SCHERER: AS IT IS IN HEAVEN

Carl Kostyál is pleased to present As it is in Heaven an exhibition of new works by Swiss-born, New York based artist Yves Scherer at Stockholm, Hospitalet.

Scherer’s work explores ideas of the self, celebrity and of mediated realities. He creates immersive environments that combine personal narratives with fan fiction to offer the viewer an often romantic lens or perspective on the self, relationships and the everyday.

For this exhibition, his second with the gallery and his first in Sweden, Scherer has made lenticular photographs using a dizzying twenty-six frames per image to create a dazzling effect on both the eye and the mind. The image blurs and morphs into another image as the viewer moves around it, in this case, a very young Kate Moss with close-ups of wild flowers, confounding the eye and senses.

The visual effect takes on a metaphorical dimension, blurring the perception of self with the image one displays in public - the sphere of one’s interior life and its outward performance.
